2024 Tournament Results

The tennis club has a brand new men’s champion. Ashley Powter stormed to victory over ex-champ Jamie Blundell at the club finals on September 14th. Despite the apparently straightforward 6-3 6-1 scoreline, Ashley, 24 (pictured R alongside the runner-up) says the match was tough and paid tribute to his opponent, “He’s a very good player, hitting good deep balls. It was a very good game.”
Ashley then teamed up with Monika Jaquinot to win the mixed doubles title. He is now looking forward to seeing himself up on the clubhouse honours board, “Get my name up there, that’ll be lovely.” It’s been a great year for Ashley who is one of the youngest members of the coaching team at GSTC. In 2024 he gained his first major coaching qualification, then passed his driving test first time. Can things get better? Yes they can, Ashley is Member of the Month for an unprecedented second time.
Congratulations also to Keri Tobin (pictured R) for winning the ladies’ singles against Mel Boyle (L), then picking up the doubles title with partner Rebecca Stacey.
Big thanks go to the club committee and other helpers for making it a great finals day, with sunshine, a top barbecue and quality tennis. Just like Wimbledon, our glamorous victors can be spotted on the red carpet at the club’s prestigious awards night at the Three Horseshoes Stapleford on October 12th.
