£600 Raised for Charities

Saturday 14th May was a big day at the tennis club. We welcomed two former professional tennis players, Danny Sapsford and Luke Milligan from Bright Ideas for Tennis, to provide coaching sessions all in aid of two worthwhile charities.
The day began with coaching for children under 10, and was followed by a well-attended session for teens. There was then a barbecue and raffle, followed by two sessions for adults. We were also treated to a top quality exhibition match between Tom Hands and Harry Wendelken, two local young men aiming to become professional tennis players.

The tennis club would like to thank everyone who attended for helping us make the day a great success. Particular thanks go to our volunteers for manning the barbecue and raffle stand; to the members who baked cakes, brownies and other treats, and donated them to the cake stall; and to Grahame Pettit who donated his time to the club to provide us with photos of the day.
We raised around £600, which will be split evenly between two charities; Tennis For All Uganda and the Richard Darton Tennis Foundation. Both charities offer tennis coaching for disadvantaged children, helping to improve participation in our sport. Most importantly the charities provide the children with opportunities to be children, to make friends and be safe. We hope that our donations will provide coaching or equipment to enable to them to continuing to provide their services.
The excitement of the day was followed by a quiz night held at the Red Lion in Whittlesford. Despite clashing with Eurovision and the FA Cup Final we managed to get a good turnout for drinks, food and quiz questions.
