The Ladies 1st team has entered a national competition this season, LTA Team Tennis. They have entered into the county tier and have won their league at this level! This means they qualify to represent Cambridgeshire in the County Tier playoffs.
The prize?
Promotion to the Regional Tier of the competition.
The playoff will take place on Sunday 21st July, at home against Ipswich Sports Club. Ipswich are an unknown in the competition - they were the only team to enter the Suffolk competition so have made it through to the playoffs without so much as opening a tube of balls! But no matter, the match is still likely to be a good one and we hope to see lots of you turning out to support our ladies and help provide an atmosphere for both teams.
The LTA Team Tennis is a national competition with three tiers - county, regional and national - and classifications for age groups from 8&U up to Open. Each match features four singles matches and two doubles matches.
The county tier is the entry tier and teams in the county tier play round robin matches. Winners in each county will qualify for the playoffs and the opportunity to gain promotion into the regional tier. Two teams from all the counties in a region get promoted. In a similar way, in the regional tier, teams compete for promotion to the national tier. The ultimate prize at that level is a place in the National Final, which is held this year at the West Hants Tennis Centre.
